Bear Camp Flat Trailhead

This trailhead begins from a beautiful meadow.  Four wheel drive vehicle is recommended to access this trailhead.  Access is from Forest Rd. 64 from Eagleville in Surprise Valley or Forest Rd. 64 from Likely at Hwy 395.

Lily Lake Picnic Site

Lily Lake is a beautiful spot for a picnic.  Day Use ends at 10pm.  There is no camping or overnight parking permitted at Lily Lake Picnic Area.  Camping is available at nearby Cave Lake Campground.

From Lakeview, Oregon go south 14 miles on US Hwy 395 and into California to County Road 2. Turn east on County Road 2 and continue for 6 miles to the lake and picnic area. From Alturas travel north on US Hwy 395 approximately 38 miles to County Road 2. Turn east on County Road 2 and continue for 6 miles to the lake and picnic area.

Pepperdine Equestrian Campground

The campsites are mostly shaded and enjoy serene surroundings and are equiped with 12' X 12' metal corrals. A short trail runs over to the start of the Summit Trail where it heads south into the South Warner Wilderness.  No wilderness permits are required however, if you plan to use a camp or backpack stove or charcoal barbeque or have a campfire outside the developed campground, you will need a current California Campfire Permit.

Directions

From Alturas, head east 13 miles on County Road 56 to the Modoc National Forest Boundary. The number changes to Forest Service Road 31/ Parker Creek Road. Continue 6 miles on Road 31 to the campground entrance road on the right.

Lassen Creek Campground

Lassen is a lovely little campground near the obsidian mines.  It is currently under discussion for decommissioning.

This is an open area camping as there are no designated camp-sites.  Fire rings are located throughout the area.

Directions

From Alturas go north on US Hwy 395 approximately 20 miles to Davis Creek. Turn east on County Road 11 and continue approximately 9 miles to County Road 30/Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail and turn left/north. Continue north approximately 15 miles to the campground on the right.

Alternately, continue past Davis Creek to Co. Rd. 47, turn right (east) and follow the few signs to the campground.

Mill Creek Falls Campground

Located on the edge of the South Warner Wilderness this campground is nestled in the thick pine forests above Jess Valley at the south end of the Warner Mountains.  It’s easy access makes for a perfect weekend get away.

From Alturas go south on US Hwy 395 approximately 18 miles to Likely, CA. Turn east on County Road 64/Jess Valley Rd and go 3.2 miles to Blue Lake Road and West Warner Road. Turn left (northeast) on West Warner Road for 2.5 miles to Mill Creek Road. Turn right and follow the signs to Mill Creek Falls Campground.

Lily Lake Boating Site

Lily Lake is picturesque and is ideal for that kayak or canoe.  No boat motors of any kind are allowed on Lily Lake.

This is a "day use" only facility.  No overnight camping is permitted.  Cave Lake is just a short distance up the road for campers.

Pine Creek Trailhead

Pine Creek Trailhead is located east of West Warner Road and north of Soup Springs.  There are no corrals at this location.  This is not a campground but an ideal start for a journey on foot or on horseback into the South Warner Wilderness.

North Emerson Trailhead

Located at the end of Forest Road 40, just off Co. Rd. 1 south of Eagleville, this trailhead, along with the South Emerson Trailhead connects to Owl Creek Trail for access to the eastern slopes of the South Warner Wilderness.

North and South Emerson trails form a loop, making a short day hike quite enjoyable.  There is a large elevation change along the nearly 3 mile loop and it is suggested to take the South Emerson Trail going up and return via the North Emerson Trail.

South Emerson Trailhead

This trailhead and Emerson Campground are located at the end of Forest Road 40, off Co. Rd. 1 just south of Eagleville.

Both South and North Emerson Trailheads start from here.  These trails form a loop as well as give access to the eastern slopes of the South Warner Wilderness and Owl Creek Trail.  A suggestion would be to take the South Emerson Trail going up and return via the North Emerson Trail.

Bear Camp Flat Trail connects with the South Emerson Trail.
