Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Tours

Overview:

"GOLD! GOLD! GOLD! GOLD! screamed headlines that sent over 100,000 people on a quest to pull themselves and the nation out of a depression lasting over three years. But to strike it rich they would struggle against time, each other, and northern wilderness. The Klondike Gold Rush was a great human drama that captured the attention of the world, and brought many people to settle Alaska and the Yukon. Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is a collection of sites throughout the town of Skagway, Alaska, and the surrounding area that
preserves the trails, historic structures, artifacts, landscapes, and stories associated with the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898.

Directions

Visitors can travel to Skagway by highway but driving requires international travel. The Klondike Highway, a 100 mile stretch of road, connects Skagway to Whitehorse, Canada, the capital of the Yukon Territory. From Whitehorse, drivers connect to the Alaska-Canadian Highway which connects with highways leading to the lower 48 states.

Skagway is serviced by the Alaska State Ferry system. Ferries arrive almost daily during the summer season (weather dependent) and several times a week during the winter. Most ferries can transport large recreational vehicles as well.

Skagway is also a major cruise ship port. Cruise ships dock in Skagway daily during the summer season and typically stay eight hours. Cruise Line Agency of Alaska maintains a docking calendar.

Skagway’s airport is serviced by private commuter airlines.
