Canadian Border River Access Boating Site

River Access Site located just below the Canadian Border on the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. The site has designated parking, vault toilet and a boat slide for launching your craft.

Directions

The Canadian Border River Access Site is approximately 58 miles north of Columbia Falls. MT on the North Fork Road (County Road #486). To find the North Fork. Road take Nucleus Avenue north through Columbia Falls, turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign, this becomes the North Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass.

Hungry Horse RD

The Hungry Horse Ranger District is bordered on the east by the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and Glacier National Park. Its southern border runs along the Spotted Bear Ranger District and on the west with the Swan Lake ranger District. The Hungry Horse Reservoir and the South Fork of the Flathead River run north through the middle of the district.

Approximately 10 miles north of Columbia Falls, MT. To find the North Fork Road take Nucleus Avenue north through Columbia Falls, turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign, this becomes the North Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass.

Approximately 45 miles up the North Fork County Road 486.  To find the North Fork Road take Nucleus Avenue north through Columbia Falls, turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign, this becomes the North  Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass.

The Middle Fork of the Flathead River is a part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.  It starts deep in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and flows into the Flathead River.

Hungry Horse Reservoir

The Hungry Horse Reservoir is fed by the South Fork of the Flathead River.  The Hungry Horse Dam, where the reservoir begins is located 3 miles south of Hungry Horse, MT.  The reservoir is 34 miles long and has about 170 miles of shoreline.  Two roads encompass the reservoir: the East Side Resevoir Road # 38 and the West Side Reservoir Road #895 provide access to campgrounds and boat access sites.  Boating and fishing are permitted.
